In my work, I approach emotion, energy and gesture through abstract paintings and, more recently, installations. The work references my extensive background in textiles and interest in sensory experiences to spark memory. It captures what I consider the beauty of place, of everyday life, of the domestic refuge, of simplicity. Each piece includes found objects of personal significance, including repurposed handmade linens. The gesture of the hand that created the textile or held the object becomes intrinsically part of its energy or soul, and translates as the underlying source for the abstract imagery in my artwork. Their physical presence connects to memories, identity and history. My process of deconstructing the fabric and combining it with found objects is a way to examine memories associated with physical objects and the spirit within.
Being on the tightrope is living; everything else is waiting. -- Karl Wallenda
